The president of the IIMP, Darío Zegarra, presented details about the organization of the WMC to business leaders, representatives of international embassies, and national authorities.

Lima, August 25, 2025. During a fraternal event organized in Lima, which brought together business leaders, authorities, investors, academics, and representatives from international embassies, the president of the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP), Darío Zegarra, presented details about the organization of the World Mining Congress (WMC) 2026, which will take place in Lima from June 24 to 26, 2026.
During his speech, Zegarra said the event’s motto is “Mining for the Future: Technology, Trust, and Transformation.” He explained that the world needs to move forward toward a green economy that guarantees well-being for future generations, with minerals being an essential resource for this change.
“There will be no clean mobility, no digitalization, and no sustainable infrastructure without the resources that our industry provides. And clearly, it is not enough to extract those resources; we have the challenge of doing it better and better, with more technology, building trust, and generating a positive impact on our environments,” said Zegarra.
The IIMP highlighted the WMC as a global platform for discussing the challenges of mining in the context of energy transition, with the participation of global industry leaders, and involving companies, governments, research centers, and multilateral organizations, among others.
“At this meeting, we will analyze the global challenges of mining and ask ourselves how we can boost our production to supply the world with the minerals it needs,” he added.
Dario Zegarra recalled that the WMC has been held since 1958 and that Peru had the honor of organizing it for the first time in 1974, making this the second time the country will be hosting the event. He also stated that the WMC 2026 will be much more than a technical meeting. “It will also be a unique cultural experience for our visitors, as it will coincide with the celebration of Inti Raymi, allowing us to show the world the richness of our traditions and the hospitality of our country,” he said.
The program will include plenary sessions, presentations of technical papers, field visits, excursions, and cultural activities, with the aim of offering a transformative experience that combines knowledge, innovation, and culture.
Finally, Zegarra invited the international mining community to participate in the call for technical papers, open until September 30, and to follow the latest news about the event through the wmc2026.org website and the official social media accounts on Facebook, LinkedIn, and WeChat.
