The Congress’s preliminary program outlines a high-level agenda focused on leadership, competitiveness, and technological transformation, featuring leading global voices in mining.

Lima, March 3, 2026. The World Mining Congress (WMC) 2026 has unveiled its Preliminary Plenary Program, structured around three days of strategic discussions addressing the most pressing challenges facing the global mining industry. Under the theme “Mining for the Future: Trust, Transformation, Technology,” the world’s leading mining congress will take place from June 24 to 26, 2026, in Lima, Peru.
Aligned with the ancestral celebration of Inti Raymi, a symbol of renewal, the Congress has been designed with a clear purpose for each day: redefining vision and leadership, unlocking greater value from existing assets, and delivering transformation through technology and people.
The first day will focus on leadership, urgency, and mindset shift. Beau Lotto, CEO of Lab of Misfits, will open the Congress with a keynote on navigating uncertainty and transforming decision-making, while Oxford Professor Bent Flyvbjerg will address why major projects succeed or fail. Juan Luis Kruger (Minsur), Iván Arriagada (Antofagasta), and Marna Cloete (Ivanhoe Mines) will also contribute perspectives on how to responsibly respond to growing global demand for minerals.
The second day will concentrate on generating greater value from existing assets. Mark Cutifani (Odin Partnership), Mikael Staffas (Boliden), and Roque Benavides (Buenaventura) will lead discussions on performance and competitiveness, joined by Julia Torreblanca (SNMPE), Luis Miguel Castilla (Videnza Institute), Eva Arias (Poderosa), and Stanford Professor Jef Caers, who will address the long-term talent challenge. A featured fireside chat between Mark Cutifani and Robert Friedland, moderated by Rohitesh Dhawan (ICMM), will examine the strategic direction of global mining.
The third day will be dedicated to delivering transformation. Discussions will cover mineral discovery, systemic efficiency, and organizational capabilities, with contributions from Jef Caers, Flavia Tata Nardini (Fleet Space Technologies), Tim O’Connor (BHP), and Michelle Ash (SIMULIA). The Congress will conclude with a high-level closing session featuring Iván Arriagada, Mark Cutifani, Marek Cala (WMC), and Liang Yuan (Anhui University), followed by a final keynote by Beau Lotto titled “Thriving Because of Uncertainty.”
With more than 3,000 expected attendees, WMC 2026 aims to consolidate its role as a global action platform to shape the future direction of the mining industry. To explore the full preliminary program, visit the official website: https://wmc2026.org/plenary-program/
