Joe Lombard
Vice Chair of Hatch
Joe Lombard is a globally recognized leader in the design, construction, and operation of aluminium smelters, bringing over 40 years of international experience in developing and expanding large-scale metallurgical facilities. He joined Hatch as Global Managing Director of Light Metals, later leading the Metals & Mining practice, and was appointed Vice-Chairman in 2024. In this role, he continues to focus on the metals sector while strengthening executive-level relationships with key strategic clients.
Previously, Joe served as President and CEO of Aluminérie Alouette, the largest aluminium smelter in the Americas, where he successfully led a multi-billion-dollar expansion project in Québec, now regarded as a global benchmark for quality, cost, safety, and schedule performance. Throughout his career, he has overseen major metallurgical projects across Europe, the Americas, Australia, China, South Africa, and the Middle East, and played a key role in expanding Hatch’s global footprint, including strategic initiatives in green steel, green aluminium, and the battery supply chain. Joe holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pretoria and a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in Business Economics from the University of South Africa. He is actively involved in several international business and engineering organizations and is fluent in English, Afrikaans, Dutch, and German.
