The most outstanding technical papers aligned with the thematic pillars of WMC 2026 will be selected for presentation at the event that will bring together the global mining community.

Lima, October 9, 2025. The countdown is on. Only four days remain before the closing of the call for technical abstracts for the World Mining Congress (WMC) 2026, the world’s premier mining event, to be held in Lima, Peru, from June 24 to 26, 2026, under the theme “Mining for the Future: Trust, Technology & Transformation.”
Professionals, researchers, academics, and innovators from around the world have until October 13, 2025, to submit their technical proposals via the official portal wmc2026.org/submit-abstract
So far, the organizing committee has received abstracts from Canada, the United States, France, Portugal, Spain, Colombia, Peru, Chile, India, Australia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Japan, reflecting strong international interest in contributing to the global dialogue on how mining can address the challenges of sustainability, technology, and social trust.
“WMC 2026 will serve as a global platform to showcase pioneering work and promote collective reflection on the future of mining. We invite professionals and researchers from all regions to submit their abstracts and be part of this change,” stated Dr. Doris Hiam-Gálvez, Program Chair of WMC.
Thematic Pillars
The abstracts must address one of the 16 thematic pillars that invite the mining community to rethink the industry and its most pressing transformations:
AI and Data Driven Decision Making; Health, Safety and Well-being; Autonomous Systems and Robotics; Geoscience and Next-Gen Exploration; Critical Minerals, Strategic Materials and Mineral Policy; Mining Science and Innovation; Decarbonization and Low-Carbon Mining; Frontier Mining and New Resource Access; Coal Mining Just Transition; Process Innovation, Circularity and Recovery; Environmental Stewardship and Nature-Positive Solutions; Social Performance and Indigenous Partnerships; Post-Mining Areas, Reclamation, and Revitalisation; Smart Operations and Systems Integration; Future Workforce and Education Innovation; Sustainable Infrastructure and Mine Design
A Technical and Cultural Experience
Organized by the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP), the WMC 2026 will gather more than 3,000 leaders from 70 countries, including representatives from governments, industry, academia, and civil society. The congress aims to question, rethink, and reinvent the future of mining — exploring how to supply the minerals the world needs, at the speed it demands.
Coinciding with the Inti Raymi – the Festival of the Sun, the congress will offer a unique experience that integrates knowledge, technology, and culture, featuring tourist excursions to Machu Picchu and Chavín de Huántar, as well as technical visits to Peru’s main mining operations.
In doing so, the WMC seeks to inspire a shared vision of how to build a smarter, more inclusive, and transformative mining industry.
Those interested in participating still have time to submit their technical abstract by October 13, 2025, at: https://wmc2026.org/submit-abstract/
