World Mining Congress 2026: Peru Is Getting Ready to Welcome Global Mining Leaders

The Peruvian government has declared the event a matter of national interest. The call for technical papers is currently open.

Lima, July 14, 2025. Peru is set to become the epicentre of a global debate on the future of mining. From June 24 to 26, 2026, Lima will host the 27th edition of the World Mining Congress (WMC), an event that brings together government, business, academic, and scientific leaders from over 50 countries.

The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) has declared the event a matter of national interest through Ministerial Resolution No. 174-2025-MINEM/DM, published in the official newspaper El Peruano. The WMC is being organized by the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP), an institution with 81 years of history supporting the growth of the mining sector by promoting science, innovation, technology, and professional training.

Under the slogan Mining for the Future: Technology, Trust, and Transformation, the World Mining Congress offers an opportunity to explore the global challenges facing the industry and mining’s strategic role in the energy transition. It also gives participants the chance to engage in professional exchange and enjoy a cultural experience, including guided tours to destinations across Peru.

The event is chaired by Abraham Chahuán, who has had an outstanding career in the mining industry. He serves as Director of Copper Operations for South America at Glencore and is currently the interim President and CEO of Antamina, one of Peru’s leading mining operations.
